When providing information, be sure all your personal information is correct. Nationally, all major insurers report to a database that matches your name and address to check claims history. If the information doesn't match you will not get the best price. If you have relocated, it is not unusual that the insurer will ask for your prior address.

Tip 2. HAVE YOUR CURRENT POLICY & VEHICLE ID NUMBER (VIN) READY.

Your current insurance policy could end up saving you an extra discount on your policy! Insurers often add a "Advance quote" discount and a bigger discount if you carry more than minimum coverage. Unless you know your coverage amount by heart, this information will be on your policy declaration. Matching the exact make and model will ensure you get the best rate.

Tip 3. SKIMPING ON COVERAGE COULD COST YOUR MORE!

Did you know most carriers will offer a bigger discount for those elect to purchase higher limits? Not only, in the event of an accident you are liable for, if you carry minimum coverage, you could end up paying out of pocket after your policy limit is exhausted.

Tip 4. ALWAYS WEIGH THE COST DIFFERENCE VS COVERAGE.

Before you raise your deductible, always see what the cost difference is. In the case of your Collision Deductible, it may not make sense to go from a 500 to  a 1000 deductible to save $20 per month; in the event of a claim, you will be out an extra 500 out of pocket.

Tip 5. YOUTHFUL DRIVERS CAN BE INSURED FOR FREE!

Some insurers will NOT charge extra for youthful drivers, AS LONG AS THEY MAINTAIN A PERMIT LICENSE. Typically as long as they reside at home, and under 19, they can drive for FREE!
